3 Reasons to Focus on Your Personal Brand

Personal Brand

We live in a very interesting generation. Gone are the days when advertising was automatically synonymous with truth. With so much information at our fingertips 24 hours a day, branding is crucial for success because brand loyalty is built through truth in advertising. It would be easy to pass this off as an issue only companies and corporations need to consider, but your personal brand is more important than ever. Below are the top 3 reasons you need to focus on your personal brand and stand out.

  1. Our culture values authenticity

Most people value authenticity, it’s why the reality show phenomenon is such a huge success. The more real you are, the more accessible and relatable you are, and the more respected you will be. By allowing your personal brand to be a true reflection of yourself, you allow your followers/customers/friends a level of personal connection that helps to establish a trusting relationship. Being authentic allows people to feel like they can relate to you, and when they relate to you there’s an emotional investment happening. Take advantage of this shift in culture and put yourself out there.

  1. It sets you apart

We all have the capability to promote ourselves, particularly with the variety of social media outlets and online spaces dedicated to information that is just about us. A simple Google search will pull up a variety of details about you for any potential clients, future business associates, and curious colleagues. Have you researched yourself lately? Is the information out there consistent, well thought out, and branded to portray you in a way that is truthful and authentic? Find the things that set you apart and focus on building up those aspects of your brand.

No matter what, there is no one else like you and no one else does what you do (truly!). Choose something, focus on it, and become known for it. Make sure to set up a Google Alert to stay on top of your personal brand mentions or those of others that you look up to for inspiration. Decide how often you want to receive the updates and Google will let you know whenever someone is talking about you.

  1. It gives you credibility

If research about you pulls consistent, well-branded information, your credibility is easier to defend. On the other hand, inconsistent information, competing facts and a lack of clarity about who you are can make it difficult to trust what you say and to have others align with you. Your reputation should be easily supported by your personal brand.
